The Pullman Suite is
soft and feminine with a seventeenth century French full-size bed,
Birdseye maple secretary and oak bustle bench. The green and beige
rose chiffon print draping the windows adds a quite serenity to this 10'
x 13' room.

The bustle bench serves the same purpose as the Bustle
Chair in the Parramore Room. It is so named because of the wide seat. In the days when women's fashions consisted of huge
amounts of fabric, bows, and "bustles" on the backs of
dresses, this allowed the ladies to sit down without crushing their
bustles! |
| Our spinning wheel is known as the Great wheel or "walking"
wheel because of its size and operation. It is operated by
attaching a corded roll of wool, much like a long curl, to the needle
and giving the wheel a sharp spin. The operator would then walk
back away from the wheel pulling the wool curl in a fine thread while
the wheel twisted it to make yarn. |
